1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a site asks your browser to store. Similar technologies, such as
localStorage, keep information in the browser without sending it back to the server with each request.
This site uses both, and this page covers them together.
2. The three categories
- Necessary. Always on. They make the pages and the enquiry form work and keep the form safe from automated abuse. They never enable analytics or advertising storage.
- Analytics. Off until you switch them on. They would let us count visits and see which pages are read, in aggregate.
- Marketing. Off until you switch them on. They would let advertising be measured and personalised.
No analytics or advertising tag is installed on this build of the site, so in practice only the necessary files below are ever written. The categories exist because the consent mechanism has to be in place before any such tag is added.
3. The files
| Name | What it does | Lifetime | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
drifcore_cookie_choice |
Stores your cookie decision so you are not asked again, and so the analytics and marketing categories stay
switched off unless you turned them on. SameSite=Lax. |
180 days | Necessary |
PHPSESSID |
Session identifier. Carries the enquiry form security token between loading the page and sending the form.
SameSite=Lax, HttpOnly. |
Until the browser closes | Necessary |
| Form security token | Not a cookie: a one-time value held inside the session above and checked when the form is sent, so a form cannot be submitted from another site on your behalf. | Life of the session | Necessary |
drifcore-theme |
Not a cookie: a localStorage entry that remembers whether you chose the light or the dark
version of the site. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us. |
Until you clear site data | Necessary |
| Google analytics cookies | Not currently present. If analytics is ever added, these would count visits and page views and would be set only after you switch the analytics category on. | Set by the provider | Analytics |
| Google advertising cookies | Not currently present. If advertising is ever added, these would measure campaigns and personalise ads, and would be set only after you switch the marketing category on. | Set by the provider | Marketing |
4. Google Consent Mode v2
Consent is signalled through Google Consent Mode v2. Before you make a choice, all four signals are denied:
ad_storage– deniedanalytics_storage– deniedad_user_data– deniedad_personalization– denied
When you accept a category, the matching signals are updated to granted. When you decline, they stay denied. Your decision is stored for 180 days and is applied again on your next visit.
5. How to accept, decline or change your mind
- On your first visit the banner offers Accept, Decline and Settings. The three are equally weighted: declining takes exactly one click, like accepting.
- Settings opens the per-category panel, where analytics and marketing are switched off by default.
- To change a decision later, use Cookie settings in the footer of any page.
- You can also delete cookies in your browser settings, which resets everything, including your stored decision.
- With JavaScript switched off, the settings panel cannot open and no optional cookies are set at all.
We do not use cookie walls, pre-ticked boxes, consent by scrolling or consent by closing the banner, and declining is never hidden behind a small link.

7. Legal basis
Personal information handled through this site, including information in cookies and server logs, is handled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, as described in the privacy policy. The consent mechanism above also meets the requirements Google places on sites that use its advertising and measurement products. Complaints can be made to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): https://www.oaic.gov.au/.
